iVNT Matrix-Maker

iVNT Matrix-Maker is a part of the iVNT software suite and enables telecom carriers to intelligently create a traffic demand matrix.

A representative traffic demand matrix is the foundation of accurate network modelling, without it telecom carriers have no basis for their network analysis, planning and forecasting.

In many telecoms carriers, network topology information and bandwidth utilisation data is well understood, but there are few mechanisms for measuring or estimating the end-to-end traffic volumes.

iVNT Matrix-Maker uses network topology and utilisation data to intelligently “reverse-engineer” an estimation of the traffic demand matrix. iVNT Matrix-Maker can be “trained” on fluctuating utilisation data, as seen on networks at various times of the day or week, to verifiably estimate the traffic demand matrix to an accuracy of a few percentage points. This demand matrix can then be used by iVNT to model the network and enable comprehensive “what-if” analysis for network and traffic changes, failure impact analysis and capacity planning.

iVNT Matrix-Maker is able to generate class-of-service (CoS) aware demand matrices and can be used with network topologies that utilise traffic load balancing techniques, such as Equal-Cost MultiPath (ECMP) used by typical Interior Gateway Protocols (IGPs) such as OSPF and ISIS.
