Throughout the summer of 2014, Aria Networks was featured in a number of Gartner Hype Cycles*.

As a vendor offering a technology solution positioned in the Early Mainstream stage of the adoption cycle we set about looking at what this could mean for us this year with regards to how the industry was so far embracing Software Defined Networking. With the Slope of Enlightenment just a short hop, skip and a jump away from, first, the perilous Peak of Inflated Expectations and, second, the Trough of Disillusionment, things already seem so far, so good.

In the Hype Cycles there were 2 key business areas where our technology fitted neatly:

  1. Capacity Planning & Management Tools
  2. Service and/or Subscription Billing

According to Gartner the definition of Capacity Planning & Management Tools is that they “enable IT to plan, manage and optimize the use of IT infrastructure and application capacity for business and IT service life cycles and scenarios. They go beyond trending, providing “what-if” scenario modelling, based on business and IT data. These tools also provide a real-time view of resource capacity and continuous optimization of resources in a physical, virtual and cloud data center.” So the value to business, if implemented correctly, is vast. With organisations increasingly under pressure to improve network speeds and ensure a substantial return from any new technology investments Aria Networks becomes an attractive business partner. Equally, as Cloud Service Providers scramble to improve their competitive standings by offering their customers new services and functions, the more our technology appeals to them by way of enabling increased automation in an area that can otherwise be resource intensive.

Telecoms operators simply cannot afford to lose sight of the cost of providing data, but just as importantly they absolutely need to know how to prioritise usage and access across their networks. With power users prepared to pay whatever is necessary to be online, real time network analysis is imperative. And when you’re talking about making traffic decisions, or switching hardware or software usage level in nanoseconds, human intervention simply takes too long – automation is the only way. Aria’s technology empowers these businesses to deliver an outstanding user experience, which we believe takes our customers quickly to enlightenment and onwards to improving productivity.
